Best Gaming Chairs

After much research, we’ve gathered the best gaming chairs around, starting as low as $100 and going as high as $300. We’ve also included a special category for Big & Tall consumers. If you’re in the market for a hot new gaming chair, start here and let us walk you through your best options in different price ranges.

An oft-overlooked part of the gaming experience can be found in seating. Specifically, chairs. Most people will sit on or in pretty much anything that functions as a seat, whether it’s a haphazard pile of couch cushions or a luxury chair priced at a thousand dollars. However, by taking a bit more consideration into what chairs you buy for your gaming, you can have a much better experience.

The important thing to realize about chairs is that a good chair will ensure complete comfort and provide your body with the support that it needs. A bad chair, however, can cause long-term discomfort and may even exacerbate certain back problems. PC gamers especially, who spend a long time at their desks, should look into higher-end solutions beyond basic $20 office chairs.

X Rocker 5143601 II Gaming Chair

There’s not a huge number of choices within the sub-$100 price range, but just about everything you’ll find in our article is better than your typical $20-$40 office chair. Spending just that little bit extra makes a big difference in terms of build quality, and our winning choice was the HomCom Race Car Style Gaming/Office Chair, which is priced at around ~$60 and boasts superior comfort and build quality. It also has a slightly higher weight capacity (at 331 lbs) than most bottom-budget chairs (which cap out at 250 lbs or so).

The $100-$200 price range chairs begins to introduce more high-end chair designs, weight capacities and customization options. While there are a few chairs that stray closer to more traditional office designs, these chairs boast better build quality and higher backs. A few of the chairs in this category also have higher weight capacities than average, but most of the best options here focus on comfort and design.

Our top pick for this category is the OPSEAT Master Series PC Gaming Chair, which has a 300lb weight capacity, a ton of customization options, and a height capacity of around 6’4.

Once you’re spending this much on gaming chairs, pretty much all of the options are great. A few options from DXRacer do come at an unusually low weight capacity of 200 lbs, but if you fall under that you’ll have a superbly comfortable and well-built chair to relax in. Other options trend at higher weight limits and focus on high quality above all.

The winner for us in this category is the Vertagear S-Line SL2000 Gaming Chair, thanks to a great 330lb weight capacity, good build quality and good customization options.

Of course, it’d be silly if we left out console gamers from this round-up. Console gaming chairs aren’t meant to be used at a desk: instead, they’re meant to be used in a living room environment, slightly-elevated from the floor and in front of a TV. Console gaming chairs also tend to have extra features, like built-in speakers, subwoofers and cupholders.

Our top pick for console gaming chairs is the X Rocker 51396 Pedestal Gaming Chair, which boasts pretty much all the features to look for in a console gaming chair. It’s also slightly-elevated with a pedestal, if you’re too tall for chairs seated directly on the floor.

Last but certainly not least, gaming chairs can be hard to come by for customers who fit in the big and tall category. If you aren’t of medium height/weight or less, you may want to look into chairs fitting this category. For people 6+ feet tall or 300+ lbs, this is the category that you want to shop in.

Unfortunately, due to the niche nature of this category, products within it tend to trend a lot more expensive. The cheapest option in this category starts at $180, for instance, which is already well into the mid-range of gaming chairs for most consumers. The highest-end options begin to climb into the $5 and $600 range, which is well above the price range of other options we’ve covered.

Our top pick for gaming chairs in this category is the DXRacer Tank Series DOH/TS29/NB, which boasts a 450 lbs weight capacity and a 6’7 height capacity. This, in addition to DXRacer’s superior build quality and comfort, makes it the clear winner...if you can afford its hefty price tag. If not, we recommend looking at the other options we provide in our article.

How To Choose A Gaming Chair

When picking a gaming chair, there’s a few factors you’ll want to take into consideration.

Weight Limit

This is arguably the most important. Ideally, you want to buy a chair with a weight capacity that’s 20 lbs or more above your own weight. This will mean that the chair can comfortably handle your weight and you don’t need to worry about wearing down and breaking it too quickly. For heavier people in particular, it’s important to make sure that you aren’t straddling the weight limit, since a chair break and the resulting fall could be particularly injurious.

Height Capacity

Second most-important! How tall are you? If you’re shopping for high-backed chairs, you want something that you can comfortably recline in. If not full back support, at least go for something that can comfortably support your lower back whenever you decide to lean back.

Materials and Cushioning

The first two aspects determine whether or not the chair will work out for you at all: the third determines your level of comfort. Fortunately, pretty much all of the chairs we’ve selected should have good quality materials for your comfort. The Racer chairs will also offer cushioning for extended periods of time spent gaming or relaxing.
